Perhaps I ought to more accurately ask: Where is your 2019 going? Incredibly, we’ve pretty much reached the mid-way point of the year. Wow. Long-standing coaching clients know to anticipate what’s coming next. Yes, it’s the often-dreaded Mid-Year Check-In. LOL.
Though I feel like a gym trainer cracking a whip or something, this is not my intent. Quite the opposite! Notice we’re starting on a note of celebration!! First and foremost, I strongly encourage you to spend quality time reflecting on 10 things you have done well since January. This can include positive qualities you have embodied care-giving or otherwise. Is a list of 10 too much? Then make it 20. Ha, ha. My point is to recognize yourself positively.
Building from there, please observe where you’ve made new decisions or shifts in your life. In my case, mid-May marked a rather unexpected opening in the use of my voice. Holy. It was like a constrictive set of bolts around my throat suddenly unfastened. I call it my Jeannie Metamorphosis in recognition of the 1960’s TV classic where she could change circumstances in the blink of an eye. Since, I have claimed how opinionated I actually am!
Given the countless realizations I’ve had during and following the eldercare marathon, I’m also aware of how and why my Real Self got shut down. At my mother’s hands, it was not safe to speak up. Now I am at renewed risk of going from unassertive to aggressive – thus skipping an assertive stance altogether. Mine is a great example of what I mean by identifying your next areas of growth and development. Based on your celebrations and shifts, what are yours?
Indeed, that’s what I invite you to consider next.
Please locate those lessons, insights and intentions ‘we’ worked on together inside this blogging space back in January. Can’t find them, they’re so remote? I’ll wait for you. Then we’ll talk about how to elevate your summer as a caregiver.
