The Caregiver’s COMPLETE SUPPORT System

caregiver support eldercare supportive care providers un-cope-able parents

Here we are…  We have shared a series of weeks defining the COMPLETE SUPPORT to which you are entitled from government, institutions and agencies as a caregiver to aging parents or relatives, a significant other, friends, neighbors or even colleagues.  Today’s post summarizes the elements of this important acronym for your ongoing reference.A COMPLETE Summary

Here’s what COMPLETE attentiveness to YOUR needs should look like:

CARING = feeling valued

OPENNESS = willingness to work with (not against) you

MATURITY = not being a game-player

PARTNERSHIP = a spirit of give-and-receive collaboration

LOYALTY = dedication to stand up for you

EXCELLENCE = striving to be one’s best

TRIBE = those in a service role ‘get’ you

EXACTING = demonstrating impeccable standards of precision

A Synopsis of SUPPORT

Here’s how true SUPPORT ought to show up:

SUSTAINABILITY = staying the course and following-through for the long haul

UNCOMPROMISING = unwillingness to lower one’s standards

PROFESSIONALISM = taking pride in one’s work and interactions

PRESENCE = grounded, conscious, available to you

ORGANIZED = in charge of self and the service provided at all times

RESPECT = offering due regard toward another

TRUTH = speaking with honesty and integrity

Bringing Both Halves Together

If any of you noticed that our acronym encompasses a combination of BEING (inner qualities) and DOING (visible action), then you just hit Bingo!  Qualities like Caring, Maturity and Excellence must under-gird behaviors such as being organized, following through and partnering with caretakers.  One side without the other is an incomplete equation.  When a service failure occurs, inevitably a key attitude/mindset was missing that translated into poor outer choices.

Stay Tuned

In part two of this review, I will speak to the Big WHY underlying my dedication to caregivers.
