Raise your hand if you are employed in this kind of workplace… The senior leadership team has just spent days at a lavish multi-day retreat. Upon their triumphant return, the latest ‘change management’ brainchild is announced with fanfare. The glowing initiative lands with a thud amongst employees who grudgingly kept the home fires burning in the exalted ones’ absence.
Don’t believe this scenario can ever happen to you? Consider yourself lucky. For over three decades, it was my consistent experience in corporate America. But how does this reality connect to COMPLETE SUPPORT for caregivers? The answer is, more than you think.
What Is the Opposite of UNCOMPROMISING?
An agency, facility or organization that fails to embody UNCOMPROMISING standards of quality regarding support toward caregivers of aging parents (or others) unequivocally does not embody their stated credo. Vision and values are merely empty slogans on a wall. You often feel trapped in a sales game of ‘bait and switch’. At its worst, you’re endlessly sold new ‘packages’ while the previous one remains unfulfilled. Really?
What is a Truly UNCOMPROMISING Standard?
When dealing with a genuinely UNCOMPROMISING agency, facility or organization, every service interaction reflects stated values. You feel confirmed in your decision to choose them as your provider. Values espoused in glossy brochures and/or displayed on public plaques are evidenced daily during private conversations – especially behind closed doors. There exists zero discrepancy. Corners are never cut between outcomes and service delivery promises.
Questions for Reflection
To advance your contemplations about unyielding integrity and other measures, how would you answer the following questions?
- What service standards are you unprepared to compromise?
- Name 5 to 10 core values you need to see demonstrated amongst the agencies and institutions who claim to serve you and those you take care of.
- When you encounter a values misalignment, how do you plan to call it out?
