On a driving trip from Toronto to Cape Cod years ago, my husband and I learned that the week where July ends and August begins is considered rather of a cross-over. Visitors there for July tend to head home and August vacationers arrive. A cool practice, I find!
Translated to our Mid-Year Check-In, how about we take stock of summer 2019 so far in a similar fashion?
Behind You
Who here remembers my Memorial Day urging to set summer vacation boundaries around your precious time – versus handing it over to everyone else? Then there was the pre-July 4th theme of elevating your summer through fun, self-care and growth. How’s it going so far? If you’re stunned that July is almost over and you haven’t ‘accomplished’ half of what you set out, is it possible you didn’t place enough BEING time in your calendar? It’s not too late.
Present for You
That brings us to what is ‘present’. Let’s define this two ways. One is that you are in the present. Though often stated, today is truly the ‘only’ moment we have. How do we each make the most of it? The other meaning is to take an opportunity to look at what is right by your value system. Personally, I’m committed to reclaiming the qualities of: gratitude; clarity; liberation; aliveness; energy; and deservingness. What ways-of-being are important to you?
Ahead of You
Mind, even if today is ‘all’ we have, this should not prevent us from looking intentionally ahead. As a friend once remarked about long grocery store line-ups, you can either focus on the string of people still in front or how you are (even slowly) moving up in the queue. August is on the horizon. I repeat: What can you do – right now – to design this month in ways that are fulfilling for YOU? Notice I did not say for family, friends or anyone else.
For Your Consideration
A simple parting question for today: How do you choose to characterize your summer once we reach Labor Day? Caregiver or not, more of this outcome is up to you than you may believe.
